St.Louis, Mo - They show us the world is small. Technology is easier to communicate with people around the world. Companies are now in a global economy. And makes it easier to transport from point to point.
When making a trip outside of Ann Arbor as it did last night in St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame ceremonies, he reminded me of the breadth and depth of UM athletic tradition and its reach across the nation and the world.
Dan Dierdorf, legendary offensive lineman for the Wolverines and St. Louis (football) Cardinals and Red Berenson, iconic hockey coach and player for both UM and St. Louis Blues, were both honored during the inaugural ceremony of the Hall.
Dierdorf was one of 20 people set in the new Hall of Fame, while Berenson was honored for
Berenson was the first true blues superstar. And Dierdorf? Well, what can you say about this giant of a man on the ground, in country and outside.
And while I mixed the night with two UM men in discussion with other big names in St. Louis sports history, I noticed that, while their evening, they do not really need viewers. They had fun talking to others, their great love for the city of St. Louis, and, of course, Michigan.
How solemn issues in the Millennium Hotel to start with more than 1400 enthusiastic St. Louis sports fans, who then came to the podium, and his daughter and former women's basketball player Katie UM Michigan was the table just before the start of the ceremony, makes us wonder what is up.
This was not for family Dierdorf. It was all Pettit St. Louis Hawks basketball legend Bob and his ties to Michigan.
Pettit said Dierdorf a picture of the first Michigan football team and his grandfather, Albert Pettit, who was a member of that team. Dierdorf was shooting in the sides, and proud history tells us how his grandfather was Bob Pettit.
When Dierdorf told Pettit that he will go to "Michigan men", saying Bob laughed and said he hopes the story was true after all these years to hear and tells the story of a man in Michigan Pettit House.
