With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that the movements that lead the market can develop.
In developing their own wristwatches Casio began with the fundamental question, "What is a watch?" Instead of just making a digital version of the conventional mechanical clock, we think the ideal wristwatch should be something that shows all facets of the time and consistently. On this basis Casio able to clock the exact time, including shows on the one after, no minutes, hours, days and months - indicate am or pm, and the day of the week. It was the first in the digital world clock with a calendar function that automatically eliminates the need to schedule the change in the length of the months to recover. Instead of a conventional clock face and hands, a liquid crystal digital display is adopted to better reflect all information. This culminated in the launch in 1974 of CASIOTRON, digital clock with the world first automatic calendar. The CASIOTRON was hailed as a breakthrough product is a complete break with the conventional wrist watch.
In 1983, Casio launched the shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch. This product shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of jewelry that must be handled with care, and was the result of Casio engineers taking on the challenge of creating the heaviest of the world to see. Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and the case, the G-Shock offers a radically new kind of watch that was unaffected by strong impacts or shaking. The practical usefulness was immediately recognized, and its unique appearance, embodied its functionality, became very popular, resulting in explosive sales in the 1990s. The G-SHOCK soon adopted various new sensors, solar energy, radio-controlled technology (described below), and new materials for even better durability. By always employing the latest technology, and the continuation of the conventional thinking about the watch on rising, the G-SHOCK brand has become the flagship of Casio watches.
Today Casio focused on solar radio-controlled clocks: the solar cell eliminates the hassle of changing batteries and radio controlled feature means that users never take the time to reset. In particular, the radio controlled by the function implies a revolution in time keeping technology similar to the effects created when mechanical clocks led to quartz technology. The development of radio-wave high sensitivity, miniaturization, and energy efficiency, Casio continues to produce a range of radio control models.
